COMFORT    QUILTS

" How often do we think of our Canadian men & women in Afghanistan?

Can we as Canadians do something to help our brave men & women? "

I have been searching the internet for several months to see if there is anything I can do.

Finally I found a site that advises in U.S. there are several groups and individuals who make and send quilts overseas for their injured.

This got me thinking:  “If U.S. can do this, Why is this not done in Canada?”

I contacted Lisa Cameron, Deployment Resources Manager, in Ottawa with the idea of making quilts and having them sent overseas to help “comfort” our wounded. She advised she is not aware of any organizations in Canada which make quilts for this purpose.  After several months of her checking, I now have permission to move forward with my idea.

Therefore, I have started “Comfort Quilts Campaign” in which quilts will be made and sent to Ottawa. From Ottawa, the quilts will be flown to Germany to be distributed to wounded Canadians.

If any of our Canadian soldiers are wounded while in Afghanistan they are airlifted to a military hospital in Landshtul, Germany where they receive medical attention.

For our service men and women this is a frightening ordeal.

My objective is to get as many groups and individuals on board so we can send quilts to Ottawa on a regular basis.

I would appreciate it if you would forward this information to your family, friends, neighbours, Church groups, etc.

If you would like to help by making one or several quilt blocks or perhaps a quilt with your scrap material, that would be great.  If you would like to sign your quilt or block, with your name or initials and City/Province, this would let the injured Canadians know we are all thinking and praying for them.

If you are unable to make blocks, perhaps you would donate your material and batting scraps.

If you can help in any way, please contact myself.

The only restriction I have is that NO material be used that has guns, camouflage, tanks or war airplanes.

I would like to have something "Canadian" on every quilt - Maple Leaf / Hockey Logo / Mountains / whatever.

I have attached e-mails from Lisa Cameron, Deployment Resources Manager for your information.

If you would like more information, please feel free to contact myself at:

lbforth@yahoo.ca               519 - 205 - 1026

Donations can be dropped off at:  29 Miller Street,  Strathroy

                OR   Fabricland, Wonderland Road, London

If donations cannot be dropped off, please call & I will arrange for pick-up.

Thanks for your help.
