Tinners is very much like a round robin quilt but with
mystery added in! I first must explain the name. "Tinners" is the
program name because all of the supplies and finished work will be
transported and stored in a large coffee tin.
Below is an overview of the program details.
Program Overview
-
Program runs from Sept to June.
-
Cost to join the program is $5. This is to cover the
cost of the initial fabric purchase required to run the program.
-
Tins will be distributed at the Sept meeting and
handed back into the coordinator each month at the start of the next
meeting. The coordinator has a master list of tins and who has which
tin to ensure that you receive a different tin each month. Tins will
be redistributed at the end of each meeting.
-
At the end of the program (in June) each tin will
contain 10 completed blocks of a particular theme. (The theme is the
mystery. Each tin contains a different theme that all blocks must
follow).
-
Participant names will be drawn randomly at the June
meeting to receive a group of theme blocks. The goal is to have your
10 blocks sewn together in a quilt for the Sept meeting in 2004 for
show and tell.
There are a few rules to the program, in order to keep
out of sewing room chaos!
Tinner Rules
-
You MUST complete the block in the month that you have
the tin. Incomplete blocks or no block at all will result in a Tinners
fine of $10. The $10 is to be placed directly into the tin to
compensate the person at the end of the project that will be a block
short.
-
You are responsible for the tin and returning it ON
TIME. If you cannot make a meeting you must get the tin to the
coordinator or to the CAC before the meeting. This is important
because the other tinners are counting on you, as someone will have to
go home without a tin!
-
You must follow the theme that is indicated on the
instruction sheet within the tin. Blocks can be of any design within
that theme. Machine or hand piecing, paper piecing and hand or machine
appliqué are all acceptable. Fusible appliqué is allowed but all raw
edges must be satin stitched by hand or machine. Embellishments are
also acceptable
-
Each block MUST include a piece of the supplied fabric
in the block. Ten blocks have to contain this theme fabric, so be sure
to use it wisely.
-
Please use only 100% cotton fabrics for the base of
the block.
-
Blocks can be of any size or shape that you desire. A
plain piece of fabric does not constitute a block.
Conclusion – for a mere $5 and some fun in your
sewing studio you receive 10 completed quilt blocks in June!
